PANAHON

A parrot with a body length of up to 33 cm and a weight of up to 120 grams has a long tail. The coloration is rather unusual – black feathers on the back with a wide yellow border. The head is light yellow, around the eyes and cheeks are white. The undertail is red, the shoulders and flight feathers in the wings are bluish-green. The chest and belly are light yellow with blue and reddish tints. Males and females do not differ in coloration. Males are usually larger and have a more powerful beak. 2 subspecies are known that differ in size and color. With proper care, birds live for more than 15 years.

HABITAT UG KINABUHI SA KINAIYAHAN

The species lives in the northeastern part of Australia. They live at an altitude of about 700 m above sea level in various landscapes – open forests, savannahs, meadows, thickets along the banks of rivers and roads, in agricultural landscapes (fields with agricultural plantings, gardens, parks). Usually found in pairs or small flocks, quietly feeding on the ground. At the beginning of the day, birds can sit on trees or bushes and behave quite noisily. The diet includes fruits, berries, plant seeds, flowers, buds, nectar and insects.

BREEDING

The nesting season is January-September. Birds usually nest in hollow tree trunks up to 30 m above the ground, but often man-made fence posts and power lines are used for this purpose. The depth of the nest is not less than a meter. The female lays 4-5 eggs in the nest and incubates the clutch herself for about 20 days. Chicks are born naked, covered with down. By 5 weeks they are fully fledged and leave the nest. For a few more weeks, their parents feed them.
