A large yellow-crested parrot is a short-tailed parrot with an average body length of about 50 cm and a weight of up to 975 g. The main color of the body is white, yellowish feathers on the underside of the wings and tail. The crest is long, yellow. The periorbital ring is devoid of white feathers. The beak is powerful grey-black. Female yellow-crested parrots differ from males in eye color. Males have brown-black eyes, while females have orange-brown eyes.

Habitat and life in nature of a large yellow-crested parrot
A species of large yellow-crested parrot lives in northern and eastern Australia, on the islands of Tasmania and Kangaroo, as well as in New Guinea. Mostly they do not roam, but sometimes they fly between the islands. Sometimes they stray into multi-species flocks of up to 2000 individuals. The most active are large yellow-crested parrots in the wee hours. Usually they behave quite noisily and noticeably.

Usually, large yellow-crested parrots nest in hollows of trees along the banks of rivers at a height of up to 30 meters. The clutch usually contains 2-3 eggs. Both parents incubate for 30 days.
Sulphur-crested parrot chicks leave the nest at about 11 weeks of age. For several months, parents feed the chicks.
