The guinea pig is the perfect pet for kids. She is very sociable, loves affection, and the more you communicate with her, the more lively and intelligent she becomes. However, it is not easy to win the love of an animal; a guinea pig must first be imbued with trust in others. A small animal must first get used to everything new, including stroking and petting.

Is a guinea pig dangerous for a child? Can it bite or cause other harm? No no and one more time no. Guinea pigs, of course, can potentially bite a person, but they do this only in the most extreme cases, when their lives are in danger, for example. And with a kind and careful attitude towards her, the pig will never bite either you or the child. In general, guinea pigs are very meek and defenseless animals. A guinea pig can be safely brought to a child, starting from the age of 7-8 years. Boys and girls at this age will already be able to independently feed the pig 2-3 times a day, change the water in the drinker, pour hay, play with the pig and watch her while she walks around the room, and even, quite possibly, clean the cage.

Let the child feel his share of responsibility while feeding the animal, caring for him and cleaning his home. But don’t give an animal to a child until you first make sure that the guinea pig is alert. A change in the behavior of the animal, as a rule, indicates a disease – which the child may simply not notice.

Be sure to show your child how to pick up and hold the pig correctly so as not to injure her spine.

Mubo nga sulat. There was a case when children, out of love for an animal, simply squeezed a guinea pig to death in their hands. It cannot defend itself, it does not scratch or bite, it will not twitch violently like a rabbit, and it will not be able to deftly jump to the floor like a cat. Explain all this to the child so that the animal does not die through his fault in the process of communication.
